The Black Eco Chamber’s Double Feature: A Workshop and Mixer for the Community

This past Saturday was a pivotal day for the Black Eco Chamber as we hosted not one, but two dynamic events that brought together aspiring entrepreneurs, established business owners, and community leaders from Western Washington. The day started with the highly anticipated Starting a Business Workshop, followed by the vibrant 2024 Fall Mixer

Starting a Business Workshop

Late morning kicked off with the Starting a Business Workshop in Washington State, which catered to those who are ready to turn their ideas into tangible businesses. The workshop was led by BECO and Brave New World Enterprises Founder, Shyan Selah, and Program Manager Candice Richardson, who generously shared their knowledge on everything from writing a solid business plan to navigating the administrative state requirements, raising start-up funds, and legal structures.

Attendees were guided through practical steps to launch and sustain a new business, including tips on managing finances, developing effective marketing strategies, and networking for growth. The intimate setting allowed for deep-dive discussions and personalized advice, making it an empowering experience for both new and established entrepreneurs.

As the day progressed, the atmosphere shifted from informative to celebratory with the 2024 Fall Mixer. This lively event was an opportunity for members of the community to come together, share stories, and connect over great food, drinks, and music at the brand new Ms. Jane’s Fine Dining in Fife, Washington.

The Fall Mixer highlighted the spirit of collaboration within the Black Eco Chamber. Attendees mingled and exchanged ideas about future projects and partnerships. The mixer also featured an address by BECO Founder, Shyan Selah, who emphasized the importance of unity and support in building a thriving ecosystem for Black entrepreneurs before he welcomed Community Outreach Director for the Washington State Treasury,  Jesse Johnson, to also give an address about the necessity of community feedback to our elected officials.

Building Bridges for the Future

The success of these two events is a testament to the Black Eco Chamber’s commitment to fostering growth and collaboration within the Black business community. The Starting a Business Workshop provided practical tools and guidance, while the 2024 Fall Mixer created space for meaningful connections and celebrations of progress. A very special thank you to our program sponsor: Washington State Department of Commerce.

Looking ahead, we’re excited about the future events and initiatives planned for the rest of 2024 and beyond. If you missed out on this past Saturday, don’t worry—this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more workshops, mixers, and opportunities to connect with and support the thriving Black business community in our home state.

Next event: The Funding and Building Business Credit Workshop on November 9th.

Until next time, let’s keep building, growing, and supporting one another!
